Arhael had an abusive, unhappy childhood. The Shadows, an elite group of metahuman thieves, were her very first family. It's no surprise then that when a betrayed Adraen Anarith killed all of her "family" in a fit of rage, sparing only Arhael for they were friends. She however chose family over friendship and when Adraen traveled to America, she tracked him. Threatening to destroy the whole city, she lured Adraen out, making him fight her. Arhael eventually ran away. Ever since that day, Arhael hunted her ex-friend as Umbra, becoming Shade's biggest enemy.
