History
Raymond Palmer made breakthroughs in matter reduction using lens hewn from a white dwarf star. However, the process was flawed in regarding to matter integrity after reduction, causing the shrunken object to explode. During The Centre's appearance, having read about Palmer's flawed shrinking technology Batman approached and recruited him to humanity's effort against the creature. As Palmer's reduction ray would be used on the Centre and causing it to destabilize and explode.
Following the Centre's defeat, Palmer succeeded in his matter reduction process and became a superhero known as the Atom. Later, Ray was mortally wounded final battle with the cyber-terrorist known as Chronos. His lab assistant, Dwayne Jackson became Micron. Dwayne decided to use Ray's technology and changed his codename to avenge him by defeating Chronos.
