Marco Malone grew up in the lower class area in Gotham City and even as a child, Marco had the survival mindset due to his surroundings and upbringing. As he got older, he made a name for himself fighting on the streets . However, Marco had encountered some really bad guys who were under The Penguin's payroll. These men attacked Marco nearly leaving him for dead
Just as things got worse Marco was aided by an unknown woman who seems to be around his age. After she helped him recover, it turns out shes an assassin of the League of Assassins. The woman was sent to seek out Marco in an attempt to recruit him to the league. She was told the reason for the league's interest in Marco was due to his troubled past and looking to give him "a purpose" and refine his natural warrior spirit. Marco agreed to train with the league but doesn't intend on joining them
